Hatofulkink Fic: A Human Loose in the Kitchen

I'M HAPPY FOR YOU AND I'M GOING TO LET YOU FINISH, BUT HATOFUL BOYFRIEND IS THE BEST PIGEON DATING SIM OF ALL TIME. OF. ALL. TIIIIME.

Okay now that that's out of the way.

I wrote a fill for the Hatoful Boyfriend kink meme, or as I like to call it, hatomeme.

A Human Loose in the Kitchen
(Hatoful Boyfriend; Tousaka Hiyoko (MC), Kawara Ryuuji)
summary: Someone unexpected in the kitchen.
content notes: None
other content notes: Worksafe, gen. Written for the prompt "Hiyoko/Ryuuji/in the kitchen," though I turned it into "Hiyoko and Ryuuji, in the kitchen." Basically backstory fluff. Content some readers may find to be pigeons.

Ryouta's father is never home, which is why when Hiyoko crashes into the Kawara kitchen, finding him there shocks a screech out of her.

"Oh, hello there," he says, looking away from the coffee pot. "If it isn't Ryouta's little human friend. What was your name now...Kei? No, that's not it. Kiyoko? That was it, wasn't it?"

"Um. It's Hiyoko, Mr. Ryouta's dad sir."

He laughs at that, patting her on the head with a wing.

"Call me Ryuuji. And what are you up to today? Shouldn't you be off playing with Ryouta?"

"Ryouta's not feeling well, so I thought I'd make him some chicken noodle soup!" Hiyoko tells him, bouncing on her feet enthusiastically.

"...You're a strange girl, Hiyoko-chan," Ryuuji says, giving her a look she can't interpret. "Why don't we make him some nice rice porridge instead? That will be easier on a dove's stomach."

Hiyoko's mouth drops open in shock.

"Chicken noodle soup is too hard on dove stomachs?!"

"...Yes," Ryuuji replies after a long moment. "That's definitely the problem with it."

"Hmmm...I don't know how to make that though." Hiyoko isn't really sure how to make chicken noodle soup either, but at least all the ingredients were listed right there in the name. But who even knows what is in porridge?

Ryuuji laughs.

"It's easy, I'll show you."

Hiyoko watches wide-eyed as he pulls some leftover rice out of the fridge, putting it into a pan to boil with way too much water.

"Sir, you'll ruin the rice like that!" She protests. He just laughs again.

"It will do what we want it to, just keep watching. And I thought I said to call me Ryuuji?"

"Sorry, Mr. Ryuuji."

"Close enough." He ruffles her hair again. Into the rice he adds a little salt and a fair amount of brown sugar. As the rice boils it puffs up and out into a slimy goop as Ryuuji stirs it. She watches it with suspicion.

"Mr. Ryuuji, siiiiiir, it looks funny!" She whines, tugging at his wing.

"It's alright, Hiyoko-chan. In fact, it's just about ready. Would you like a taste?"

Hiyoko bites her lip. It looks really funny, but it's supposed to be for Ryouta, she can't just feed him something weird like this untested! She nods morosely, preparing herself for the worst as Ryuuji lowers a steaming spoonful where she can reach it.

"Blow on it first, it's hot," he warns her, so she purses her lips and gives it a mighty 250 vitality blow. The steam wavers under the force of her breath. It still looks hot, so she blows again, but she knows she can only put off the inevitable for so long. She takes a tentative bite, rolling it around awkwardly in her mouth, face squinched up like that will stave off the taste. But then she actually tastes it. Her face relaxes as she realizes...

"It's kind of...good? It's sweet," she says, even as she remembers the sugar he added.

"Do you think Ryouta will like it?" He asks, watching her with a knowing smile.

"Definitely!"

"Great, then why don't we—" There's a beep from somewhere around his waist, and Ryuuji fishes out a pager. The smile drops off his beak as he reads the message.

"What's wrong, Mr. Ryuuji?" Hiyoko asks, tugging at his wing yet again when he doesn't answer at first. "Ne, Mr. Ryuuji, what's wrong?"

"A call from the lab. I'm afraid they need me to go in."

"But what about Ryouta's porridge?" Hiyoko asks quietly, lower lip jutting out in a trembling pout.

"If I dish it out, can you bring it to him, Hiyoko-chan? I really have to go..."

Hiyoko scans his face seriously. He looks pretty droopy about it, so she nods.

"Okay. You can count on me! I'll take good care of Ryouta for you!" She held out of her hand. "It's a promise!"

Ryuuji gently took her hand in wing and shook it.

"Thank you, Hiyoko-chan. I'll hold you to that."
